Ode for Solo Violin (2020)

Premiered by Jean Huang on July 1, 2020. Commissioned by Phoenix.

Program Note:

Ode was composed shortly after the murder of George Floyd and the ensuing global protests. The title has many meanings: it is an ode to those who have suffered at the hands of systemic racism, to those who call attention to oppression, to those who fight daily for justice and equality—whether as advocates or simply for survival. Above all, Ode aims to inspire hope in both those that are weary and those newly called to action.
