Dona nobis pacem for Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Cello, and Piano (2017)

Premiered February 22, 2017 by Hub New Music at Brown Hall, Boston.

Program Note:

Dona nobis pacem (Grant Us Peace) is a dire plea for peace and comfort; it embodies the despair within our hearts in the face of corruption, the cries amidst cruelty and violence, the sneers at injustice, the whimpers when helplessness overwhelms. At times resigned and somber, at other times impassioned and contemptuous, Dona nobis pacem is a meditation on the torments that stir within us, provoking us to cry out, “Grant us peace!”

In this piece, the plea remains unanswered. But it is with sincere hope that it does not fall on deaf ears.
